soil type suitability

RGT Hexton has performed well across all soil types, yielding more than existing varieties in the segment. So far, the variety has done particularly well on light soils.

HOW TO OPTIMISE THE USE OF YOUR VARIETY

Agronomy

Disease resistance is good, especially Septoria, so would suit areas of higher risk. However, this is not necessarily a ‘low input variety’.

Harvest

Growers should be conscious of the +2 for maturity. RGT Hexton would be well matched on farm with a variety with early maturity.

End Market

RGT Hexton works well as a feed variety. In addition, it has been given a medium by SWRI, meaning this variety is well adapted to the distilling market in the North of England and Scotland.
